Case Study Two -
English Country Garden
This garden was designed and landscaped by Sandstone for
clients near Sevenoaks, Kent.
Client brief - To create a unique English country garden.
As you can see this country garden has been created using
traditional cottage style planting. It has been planted to
give all year round interest; in the spring the garden is
filled with snowdrops, crocus daffodils, snakeshead fritillaria
and other bulbs, while the summer planting of Verbascums,Leucanthemums,
Rubeckia and alchemilla continue to attract birds, bees and
other wildlife. In Autumn the fiery colours of Vibernum opulus,
Acer palmatum, and Liquidambar styraciflua soften the blow
of the shortening days, while the berries of Euonymus europaeus
Pyracantha, and Cotoneaster provide winter interest and colour.
Adjacent to the house a large circular terrace has been
created using granite setts and Yorkstone slabs. A rendered
wall with inset lighting borders this area providing an ideal
dining/ BBQ area.
The two patios laid in yorkstone and granite setts are deliberately
positioned to enjoy the morning and evening sun. It is a
garden in which to savour the peace and tranquillity of the
Kentish countryside all day long and all year round.
Notable plants:
All of the above
Cornus alba Aurea
Salix alba Golden Ness
Hamamelis i. Pallida (witch hazel)
Sarcococca confusa (Christmas box)
