Client's Brief –

To create a modern, low maintenance garden reflecting the ‘art deco’, nature of their 1930’s house.

Using a subtle combination of colours and materials including natural limestone, we feel we have created a wonderfully tranquil and ordered space in this 1930’s garden.

The overall design of the garden is very simple, using a repeating pattern of the ball, square and curve.

The natural tumbled limestone gives a soft finish not only to the eye but also to the touch, this is complimented by the clean vertical surfaces which are rendered in a sand finish and painted in Fired Earth “Bone white”.

The planting reflects the modern seaside theme and is strongly architectural in style. By finishing the base and sides of the pool black, the surrounding bamboos are mirrored in the pool and  the limestone stepping stones seem as if they are floating on the water’s surface.

The whole garden is lit by a variety of pin point LED lights placed along the path, in niches in the walls and at the base of the black bamboos.

Some notable planting:

Olea europaeo – olive tree  (large).
Phyllostachys nigra – black bamboo
Paulownia tormentos – fox glove tree
Cistus ladanifer var Paladin
Pittosporum tobia
